Eye Examination

John's unhurried approach and attention to detail will ensure you receive the highest quality of clinical care during your eye examination.

Time for our patients and professional care are words our patients describe their Eye Examination at John Caulfield Opticians. You want to be able to enjoy the best vision possible so time is taken to find out who you are and how you use your eyes. There is no rush and no time constraints.

We have invested in the latest Ophthalmic equipment in both our practices which includes Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) to scan the back of the eye. Regular eye exams are important as they include a general health check and can pick up early signs of eye disease before you're aware of any symptoms ensuring you receive prompt treatment.

We are now proud to be involved in the Glaucoma Shared Care scheme in conjuction with the Ophthalmology Department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Due to the extra demands placed on the Ophthalmology department as a result of Covid 19, we now carry out glaucoma reviews for the hospital on a monthly basis in both Kirkcudbright and Lockerbie practices.

Children's Vision

Good vision is essential for your child's learning. Children should have their eyes examined each year by the Optometrist from the age of 3-4. We know that children's vision develops from birth until the age of 7-8, this is known as visual development. In Dumfries and Galloway all children are screened for visual problems prior to starting school to pick up problems such as lazy eye, squint or the need to wear glasses.

After the examination we will explain if your child's eyesight is developing well or requires treatment to aid its development, usually with spectacles or in some cases referral to the Orthoptist for exercises or patching.
